Tanya Donelly

[en] This American singer-songwriter and guitarist began her music career in the 1980’s, when she co-founded with her stepsister Kristen Hersh, the Throwing Muses. After a vocal collaboration with Kim Deal (Pixies) on the This Mortal Coil’s album Blood (1991), she joined Pixies’ bassist and formed The Breeders. Her stay with The Breeders was short, because at the same time she had put together her own band… Belly. In the late 90’s, Tanya Donelly began her solo career, searching for more soothing musical influences.

[pt] Esta cantora, compositora e guitarrista Americana começou a sua carreira musical nos anos 80, quando fundou conjuntamente com a sua meia-irmã Kristen Hersh, os Throwing Muses. Depois duma colaboração vocal com a Kim Deal (Pixies) no álbum Blood dos This Mortal Coil (1991), ela juntar-se-ia à baixista do Pixies para formar os The Breeders. A sua permanência nos The Breeders foi curta, pois ao mesmo tempo tinha iniciado a sua própria banda… os Belly. Nos finais dos anos 90, Tanya Donelly daria início à sua carreira a solo, procurando influências musicais um pouco mais serenas.

[en] On Throwing Muses, Tanya Donelly was lead guitar and secondary vocal to her stepsister Kristen Hersh. “Fish” is probably my favourite Throwing Muses song, but I really don’t know from which album it’s from.

[en] “Safari” was the great song that launched the short collaboration between Tanya and Kim Deal, with The Breeders. This EP and the album Pod would be Tanya’s only work for The Breeders.

[en] Since she began her solo career I haven’t accompanied her work very well, but the truth is she’s still active and recording albums. Her last album is from 2006 and is named The hungry life.
